Do you want to gamble with your life or would you prefer to take control?
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It began in the early 1970’s when Richard Bandler a computer scientist and John Grindler a linguistics professor met and became the founders of NLP.
One thing that came out of the work that Bandler and Grindler did was a whole new mindset and approach to developing human potential.
Neuro – the nervous system through which our experiences are processed via our 5 senses and determine how we process information.
Linguistic – language – what we say and how this is interpreted, through which we order and give meaning to our experiences.
Programming – repeatable sequences of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and the ability to re-programme these using techniques.
Your brain can only take in between 3 and 7 chunks of information at anyone time, so in order to cope with the millions of pieces of information each day it has to generalise, distort and delete information. This process determines how you think and feel about something, so if I was to mention Victoria Beckham – you would have an instant image and a feeling towards her – even though you probably have never met her. Now if you sat down and read a book about her, watched a documentary, talked to her friends and family and then met her in person your perceptions and beliefs may change but for now you have to generalise, delete or distort what you know.
NLP uses techniques to challenge what you know, how you live and where you are heading, providing you with a greater purpose and more direction in your life.
